Hospital in Syria Received Equipment and Medicines from the SUSU Partner, SoyuzMash Rossii

First Vice-President of the Russian Engineering Union, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Industry and Trade Vladimir Gutenev arrived in Syria as a member of the Russian interdepartmental delegation.

As the tradition goes, during the first day, Vladimir Gutenev visited the Russian Centre for Science and Culture "Russian House" in Damascus, where he talked to the representatives of the Home for Elderly People and Arts Therapy Centre for children, who suffered from the war. The aid supplies included 150 brand sackpacks with selections of sweets, 130 boxes of food products, office supplies, personal hygiene products, and household cleaning products. The relief supplies had been collected by South Ural State University, TsNII Burevestnik, Central Research Institute for Machine Building, and Krasnogorsky Zavod named after S. A. Zverev, which are members of the Union. After that, representatives of the Russian Engineering Union handed over 5.5 mln. RUR-worth medical equipment (manufactured by the Radio-Electronic Technologies Concern; also, member of the SoyuzMash Union) to the healthcare institution in Damascus.

"Today we are handing over the equipment, which the hospital requested in October. It includes a machine for artificial lung ventilation, manufactured by a Russian company. Together with the hospital director we have discussed the further directions of our cooperation. There is a big need in the equipment produced by the Western companies, which is out of service now due to the crisis in Syria. Thanks to our import substitution programs, we can fill this gap with Russian analogues manufactured by the SoyuzMash enterprises, during our next visits to the Syrian Arab Republic," said Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Industry and Trade, First Vice-President of the Russian Engineering Union Vladimir Gutenev.

The provided relief supplies included ultraviolet chambers for storing sterilized instruments, lung ventilators, intraocular pressure monitor, air sterilizer of surgical instruments, as well as medical accessories (disposable shoe covers, caps, gloves, gowns, masks), and plaid blankets for patients.

Hospital Director Nizar Ibrahim expressed his gratitude for the provided aid.

"Russia and Syria have a long history of relationships, established back in the times of the Soviet Union. And we are happy that the cooperation between our countries keeps developing. I would like to thank the people of Russia and the Russian Government for your help. We are very pleased to see that our relationships have only improved over the recent right years," Hospital Director addressed the Russian delegation members.

Dr. Nizar Ibrahim shared that their hospital accepts patients not only from Damascus, but from the whole Republic as well. The majority of the hospital units offer medical assistance free of charge: heart disease, oncology, vascular system disease units, and others. All in all, the hospital has the capacity of 180 beds. Also, this healthcare institution trains around 300 students, and about 100 specialists act as teachers.

June 5th through 8th, 2023 is the time of the fourth humanitarian-aid visit of the members of the Russian Engineering Union as part of the interdepartmental delegation to the Syrian Arab Republic. The goal of the Union's mission in Syria is the charitable activity aimed at collecting and shipping the relief supplies to the local people and medical organisations. Also, SoyuzMash Rossii actively develops the contacts with the specialized enterprises, universities and authorities in Syria for the purpose of facilitating the revitalization of industry and economy of this Middle East country.

The Russian Engineering Union is an organisation uniting workers of industrial enterprises, organisations and engineering universities from 76 regions of Russia, and it has 622 local subdivisions. The main goal of the Union's activity is the formation of sector development strategy, participation in the formation of the mechanisms of active governmental policy supporting the national mechanical engineering complex.

The Chelyabinsk Regional Subdivision of the Russian Engineering Union is a permanent partner of Zvezda (Star) Multidisciplinary Engineering Olympiad being organized at our university. The SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner has been appointed the First Deputy Chairman of the Regional Subdivision of the Russian Engineering Union:

"The Regional Subdivision of the Engineering Union integrates the mechanical engineering enterprises of the Chelyabinsk Region, including those of the defence industry complex. Interaction with the Russian Engineering Union helps our university create new places for practicing, that is, provide students with new opportunities of practical training and further employment. The key problem for all our enterprises today is the personnel issue. The employers are especially interested in new engineering specialists, and SUSU offers training of just these very specialists they need."
